Bedroom WOW!

Our bedroom, for the last four years, has been decorated in a monochromatic scheme, with a little bit of bling here and there for interest.

Now, it's no secret that I love the work of Sarah Richardson, but I'm not sure if I've mentioned Candice Olson before?  An episode of 'Candice Tells All' which aired on Foxtel here this week, has reinvigorated my admiration and love of her designs.

I love this room soooo much!  I am really considering just doing my best to replicate it from top to bottom!  I don't think it will happen in this house, though - maybe next time!!

Make the most of your extra day of the year, today!

Funky Fascia and Groovy Gutter

Finally, the framers have finished.  Yay!

They were really great at putting in extra noggins for us for TVs and the clothes dryer.  I'm sure the six pack of beer helped that task along!!!

Also today, the fascia and gutters were erected.

I haven't heard from the Site Supervisor today (as usual), so I'm not sure when the roof will go on or the windows arrive.  It's only Tuesday, so I guess it is possible that either or both of those things could happen this week.

In sadder, annoying and less convenient news, this happened to my little car on the weekend:

All the humans on board were fine!  The accident was not my fault, so I'm pretty cranky about the whole situation.  If you don't hear from me for the rest of the week, I'll be off looking for a new car!

Hope you're having a great week so far!!

And when they were only half way up...

...the rain came pouring down!

It's been raining all night and day, so work on the house has halted for the time being.  The forecast is for rain for another few days, so I guess we're in a holding pattern for now.

You never know, the sun might peep out for a little while tomorrow and the boys will be able to spring into action!

Fascia and gutters are due Tuesday, so I guess as long as the framers are done by then, we'll remain on schedule.

A little dose of DIY

A few (okay, lots of) months ago, I bought some lamps for a client.  They looked very different in real life to on the website, but we had been searching high and low for months, so I installed them anyway.  As soon as I saw them in situ, I removed them!!!  And... brought them home with me!

I chose some fabric earlier this month, and today decided to attempt to recover the lamp shades.  I have plenty of ideas, but my execution on DIY projects is not always excellent.  Thus, I generally leave the actual projects to Husband.  I took a teaspoon of cement, hardened up, and took to the fabric with my scissors and some spray adhesive.

On the base:

I have to say, it was nowhere near as difficult as I had predicted.  The fabric is not as even as I would have liked, but I'm sure four hands instead of two would have resolved that issue.  I might enlist some help for the next shade, just to make sure the pattern is a bit straighter.  I'm also wondering, even though this was the shade that came with the base, if a larger shade would be better??

Are you a DIY Do-er or DIY Director?  I think this project has given me the confidence I need to tackle a couple of other projects.  Are there any projects on your mind at the moment?

Have a great day and get to it!

Frameage

I've been holding on to last week's pics, waiting for a completed frame to share it with you.  However, there was noone on site this morning, so I thought I'd go ahead and upload some photos.  The next round should show the roof trusses erected.

I sent our first progress payment off last night, too, so we're certainly moving forward.

Happy Monday, everyone!!

Lamp Obsession

Do you go through stages where you just focus on one decorative element within your home?

Wandering through Bunnings, of all places, my current obsession with lamps was born!  As I'm a bit of a serial re-decorator and have a quite eclectic style, I don't like to spend too much money on individual pieces.  So, some of the items below would fit the bill perfectly!  (Not all from Bunnings!)

The cheapest of this lot was only $19.95!  But, being Frugal February and all, and given that we don't actually NEED any of these lamps, I haven't purchased any.  Stay tuned once we're in the new house, though, one or two might make an appearance!

Have a great weekend!

Slab-tastic!

Today was the day that the slab went down.  Yee hah!

Prep

One helluva drop edge beam!

Overall, I'm quite happy with the amount of room left around the house.  We always knew it would be tight, but the front yard (which is our only yard space) feels huge, so I'm really happy with that.

I mentioned today that I've started planning our new house already.  Crazy?  Probably.  Loving it?  Definitely!

Frame will be delivered tomorrow afternoon, with the frame kicking off on Thursday.  Be prepared for lots of photos this week!

A little girl's room

After a storm last night, I was very happy to see the concreters preparing to box up for the slab this morning.  I will go back this afternoon for a progress pic (you know, after school pick up and extra-curricular activities are over and done with!).  Then, tomorrow we will have a slab.  I am really getting excited!

It was whilst sitting here, planning a blog post that I didn't have any content for, that I realised I hadn't shared the concept board for our little girl's room yet.  I showed you her wallpaper here, but not the full vision.  So, here it is...

This little one is three years old, and I think she'll have a ball exploring all the little intricacies of the wallpaper.  I fell in love with the fabric pictured next to the photo frames, and am thinking of making a bedrunner out of it.  What do you think?

I've also been channelling my old favourite Sarah Richardson this morning, but am not going to tell Husband lest he has me committed for the plans I'm making!!!

Have a great week everyone - I hope it's all sunshine and joy for all of you!

Imaginary house

If you look at the photos, and then close your eyes, you can imagine where our bathrooms, kitchen and laundry are.  Can you visualise them?

Slab is due Monday or Tuesday.  This is all starting to get a bit real, isn't it!?

Visionary

No rain, means that our house is actually getting the opportunity to be built.  Here are some pics for your perusal.  You just need to use your imagination...

Stay tuned for more pics this week.  I hope you're having a good one, and that is as productive as ours!

Tween Girl's Room Concept Board

After sharing my fabric purchases with you earlier in the week, I thought I'd share with you my plans for our big girl's room.

She's turning eight shortly, so needs something that is definitely not little girlish, but not like a teenager's room either.  She wants a desk to do her homework, space to practice her violin and a lounging area as well.

This is what I've come up with for her...

She will have a white quilt cover, so that if we tire of the accent colours, we can easily change out the accessories.  This room also has a niche space that we need to decorate.  I think that will be a task for once the walls are up and we can decide what to display in the niche.

Oh, also, please note that the desk and cubes will be white, not beech!  No white picture available on the Ikea website!!!

What do you think?

Fabric purchases

Well, nothing at all ended up happening at the block last week, so hopefully it will be full steam ahead there this week.  The Site Supervisor did say he hoped to have the slab down by the end of the week.  (Revised from today, due to the recent rain).  That would mean that there should be action there just about every day this week, and I'll have some pics to share with you!

In the meantime, I recently discovered Fabric Traders, thanks to The Distressed Mother!  I finally managed a purchase today!!!

This one is to re-cover the lamp shades for the Formal Lounge room.

This one is to re-cover the lamp shade in our big girl's room.

I'll keep you posted on my progress with this project. And, I will share the concept board for the big girl's room with you later in the week.

Has anyone had any progress on their builds during the last week or so???

Have a great week!
