Family Room Inspiration

My Mum and I spent a bit of time looking at our Family Room last weekend, trying to decide what to do!

The key points were...

1.  We need a rug.  We knew this, just hadn't gotten around to it.  Guess what?  Mumma is going to shout us one.  Yay!
2.  We need to tie in the wicker from the Dining Space (pendant light and chairs) to the Family Room.
3.  We need to choose a lamp shade.
4.  We need something on the wall (my plan all along), or additional colour via cushions.

Later in the week, I found this image on Freedom's Facebook page.  It brought EVERYTHING home for me in one fell swoop!

Now, as much as I love the round rug, and have been coveting it for some time, it isn't right for our sofa, so I'm looking at the one below instead.

I'm also planning on purchasing the basket and an, gasp, indoor plant.  I've never hearted indoor plants, but this just looks and feels right!

I picked up a floor lamp in Bunnings, for the bargain price of $50, but the lamp shade was the wrong colour. I was planning to recover, but now that I've found the fabric below, I'm not so sure.  I'm even starting to think that the lamp won't actually stay.

Now, as for the artwork above...  It's kinda expensive...  so, I've sourced this fabric and am planning to stretch it over a couple of canvases.  Where there's a will, there's a way, so they say!

So, stay tuned for a big reveal soon!!

I'll be able to show you some styled pics within the next couple of weeks, because, today, we got the keys to our house!  Woo hoo!  It's all ours!

Now, to sort out some supply issues with our flooring...  More on that later.

PS: Thankfully, Husband ALWAYS ends up taking over my DIY projects.  Love that man!!!

Paint!

Happy Tuesday, from rainy Brisbane!

As promised, here are some paint photos for you.  The painters just started on the gloss trims yesterday, so some of these pics have the trims done and others not.  I may have mentioned previously that I much prefer Taubmans' range of taupes and greys to Dulux's offerings (builder's preference), but I think we hit the nail on the head with our selection, so we're very happy.

Study - need to get some serious greenery happening outside that window!
The entry hall

The Playroom - currently 'the room of doors!'  (Oh, and a curly head!)

Master Bedroom
And, just as a little teaser, here are some 'before' shots of the projects we've been working on over the last week.

An old wicker basket

A $37.88 eBay 'win'
The painters are due to finish tomorrow, fingers crossed.  I'm looking very forward to seeing the front door stained.

The closer this house gets, the slower time seems to move!

A little dose of DIY

A few (okay, lots of) months ago, I bought some lamps for a client.  They looked very different in real life to on the website, but we had been searching high and low for months, so I installed them anyway.  As soon as I saw them in situ, I removed them!!!  And... brought them home with me!

I chose some fabric earlier this month, and today decided to attempt to recover the lamp shades.  I have plenty of ideas, but my execution on DIY projects is not always excellent.  Thus, I generally leave the actual projects to Husband.  I took a teaspoon of cement, hardened up, and took to the fabric with my scissors and some spray adhesive.

I have to say, it was nowhere near as difficult as I had predicted.  The fabric is not as even as I would have liked, but I'm sure four hands instead of two would have resolved that issue.  I might enlist some help for the next shade, just to make sure the pattern is a bit straighter.  I'm also wondering, even though this was the shade that came with the base, if a larger shade would be better??

Are you a DIY Do-er or DIY Director?  I think this project has given me the confidence I need to tackle a couple of other projects.  Are there any projects on your mind at the moment?

Have a great day and get to it!
