Finishes Appointment - Kitchen Selections

As promised, here are the kitchen outcomes of the finishes appointment.

Excuse my terrible photography, as I had to it tonight and couldn't get the lighting right.

Also here
I was hoping to do the cabinetry in a gloss finish by Formica, however was informed that The Builder wouldn't use that finish.  Ugh!  So, instead of choosing a plain white, I went with Alpaca, which is a very light taupe/grey.  I like it, but it wasn't what I was really after.  What do you think?  Would a straight white laminate look really cheap and horrid?  Would it be better to stick with the Alpaca?  Help, please!!

Our splashback is glass, and will be painted White Duck like the main walls.  Have I mentioned before that I really like the house to be a blank canvas?

Also pictured is the main floor.  Gooooorgeous bamboo!  We haven't finalised the supplier for this yet, but will provide details as and when.

Phoenix Argo Tapware

Lovely sink mixer, that matches the bathroom tapware.  I initially had my heart set on a huge industrial mixer, but now I think I'm happy to stick with this guy.

The handles were another bone of contention, as they only do one length.  Seriously, peeps!  So, this is what I chose.  I am still considering whether to go without handles and have Husband fix them later.  However, that would just be another task to add to his perpetual list...

Tekform handles

So, what do we all think?  As always, fingers are crossed, hoping it all works out!

Hope you're enjoying your weekend!

  1. Hi Madonna,

I was just doing kitchen selections the other day for our reno's! I am writing a post on it and will put it up soon too.

Your look is really coming together, I love having someone who is at a similar building stage to me!

    Have a great evening.

  2. Very excited to find somebody else who is going with bamboo flooring, we are hoping to go the exact dark chocolate shade you have pictured (if budget will allow) so I look forward to seeing what you decide on. I too want my house to be a bit of a blank canvas, I get sick of stuff too quickly so nice to see someone else going with a white glass splashback. The one size handles would drive me a little batty always too much choice in some areas and not enough when you need it. Kitchen colours are right up my alley and I love the mixer, can't say the same for my standard one.

  3. All the finishes look gorgeous - very excited to see how they all come together! I love the Alpaca shade you've chose for the cabinetry, as long as you didn't absolutely have your heart set on white (because then you'd probably never be quite happy with anything else). With the handles, we weren't happy with the kitchen company selection and ordered them separately from a handle specialist. They took 8 months to arrive from Germany and Farmer Joe blames them for several new grey hairs, but it was worth it in the end.

  4. Thank you everyone for the kind comments and sharing your stories. Love it!

Tash and Stu - I will post an update once we've made our choice. I've got a hot tip on some reaaaaally cheap bamboo, but haven't had a chance to get my hands on it yet. I'll let you know!
